Abercrombie & Kent scores 86/100 as a company record: the safari company Geoffrey Kent started in Kenya in 1962 is 85% owned by Manfredi Lefebvre d'Ovidio's Heritage Group, holds ATOL 2881 and ABTA V6398, runs its own ground offices in more than 30 countries and sells trips with dated prices from USD 10,195 per person. This page, first published in July 2026 as a safari review and rebuilt on 7 September, now covers the whole company: owners, prices on four continents, booking terms by product, support on the ground, reviews and the gaps in the record.

Abercrombie & Kent scores 86 out of 100: full marks for pricing and financial protection, strong on the ground, and held back by planners it does not name and a middling review record. Its Power Rankings score of 90 was set on an older rubric that included brand authority; the rankings will be recalculated from these records.
| Criterion | Points | Out of | Why |

A&K publishes more of the operating detail than its website suggests. The site itself returns no readable text to automated readers, but the terms PDF, the booking pages on its forms subdomain, USTOA, AITO and Companies House fill in owners, prices, cancellation scales and cover. What none of them shows is a named consultant with a biography, or a number labelled 24-hour.

The record holds 20 facts about Abercrombie & Kent, each with its source and grade. Grade A means the company's own site or terms; grade B means a registry, review platform, awarding body or major press; grade C means a secondary source not confirmed elsewhere. Every line was read on 25 September 2026 unless its source says otherwise.

Abercrombie & Kent is 85% owned by the Heritage Group of Manfredi Lefebvre d'Ovidio and 15% by its founder Geoffrey Kent, under an agreement the two announced in February 2019.
The 2019 announcement made the two men co-chairmen. At Companies House the UK operating company, Abercrombie & Kent Limited, is controlled by Abercrombie & Kent Global Travel Limited, which is owned by A&K Corp. Limited; since 30 May 2023 A&K Corp. Limited has declared that it has no registrable person, so UK filings do not show who sits at the top of the chain today.
Cristina Levis runs the wider A&K Travel Group, whose five brands in February 2026 were Abercrombie & Kent, Crystal, A&K Sanctuary, Cox & Kings and Ecoventura. The same company that contracts A&K holidays in the UK also sells Cox & Kings: its booking conditions name Abercrombie & Kent Limited as the seller.
Abercrombie & Kent trips read for this record cost from USD 10,195 per person for eight days in Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe to USD 15,995 for 11 days in South Africa, with a Galápagos voyage at USD 12,995 including internal flights. A&K's own site does not render to automated readers, so most prices below come from a US agency that sells its trips; they were read on 25 September 2026 and are starting prices per person.
| Trip | Region | Days | From, per person |
|---|---|---|---|
| A&K Sanctuary Botswana Safari and Victoria Falls 2026 | Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe | 8 | USD 10,195 (November, December); USD 11,995 (September, October) |
| Iconic China and a Yangtze Cruise 2026 | China | 13 | USD 11,495 |
| A&K Sanctuary Tanzania and Kenya's National Parks 2026 | Tanzania, Kenya | 9 | USD 11,695 |
| Ultimate Galápagos Expedition, A&K's own page | Galápagos | 9 | USD 12,995, internal air included |
| A&K Sanctuary Botswana Safari and Victoria Falls 2027 | Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe | 11 | USD 13,995 |
| Southern Italy: Sicily, Puglia and the Amalfi Coast 2027 | Italy | 12 | USD 14,995 |
| Ultimate South Africa Adventure 2027 | South Africa | 11 | USD 15,995 |
The Botswana trip shows what a full listing discloses: seven departures between 29 September and 8 December 2026, nights at Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma in Livingstone, Chobe Chilwero in Chobe National Park and Sanctuary Chief's Camp in the Okavango Delta, English-speaking local guides, transfers, park fees and daily breakfast. The first version of this page listed 12 priced Africa trips between USD 7,795 and USD 22,495. For what those parks cost with any operator, see what a Botswana safari costs and what a Kenya safari costs.
Abercrombie & Kent Limited holds ATOL 2881 and ABTA V6398 and takes a deposit of £1,000 per person on small-group and private journeys, with the balance due 90 days before departure. The deposit, balance date and cancellation scale change by product, as the terms created on 16 January 2025 set out.
| Product | Deposit | Balance due | Cancellation charges |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small-group and family journeys | £1,000 per person | 90 days before | Loss of deposit to 91 days; 90 to 61 days 20%; 60 to 31 days 50%; 30 days or less 100% |
| Private journeys | £1,000 per person | 90 days before | 121 days or more £500 per person; 120 to 91 days 20%; 90 to 61 days 50%; 60 days or less 100% |
| Limited Edition small-group journeys | £1,250 per person | 120 days before | 121 days or more £1,250 per person; 120 to 91 days 20%; 90 to 61 days 50%; 60 days or less 100% |
| Luxury expedition cruises | £2,500 per person | 120 days before | Loss of deposit to 121 days; 120 to 91 days 25%; 90 to 61 days 50%; 60 days or less 100% |
| Wings Over the World, Europe | 25% | 120 days before | 181 days or more 10%; 180 to 121 days 25%; 120 to 91 days 50%; 90 days or less 100% |
| Wings Over the World, outside Europe | 25% | 180 days before | 211 days or more 10%; 210 to 181 days 25%; 180 to 121 days 50%; 120 days or less 100% |
Amendments cost £50 per person plus any communication and other charges incurred. Money paid to a travel agent is held "for the Company" until it is passed on, so an agent booking sits inside the same ATOL and ABTA cover. AITO lists A&K as member 5154; its entry shows the ABTA number as "V6398 / 72314" and the second figure does not appear in A&K's own terms. In the US, USTOA's directory lists Abercrombie & Kent USA as a member since 1980. How A&K's deposits compare with other safari companies is in the safari operator payment terms index.
Abercrombie & Kent runs its own destination management network, which claims more than 55 offices in more than 30 countries, and a resident tour director leads every small-group journey.
The network, sold to other operators and cruise lines as AKDMC, grew in August 2025 when A&K bought Borealis DMC in Copenhagen, adding Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. A&K's own figures for the network do not agree: the Borealis announcement said "over 65 offices and 40 countries" and its USTOA entry says more than 70 offices in 83 countries. In Africa it also owns lodges under the A&K Sanctuary name, such as Chief's Camp in the Okavango Delta and Chobe Chilwero.
The terms direct problems during a trip to "the Company's local representative" or, failing that, a Duty Manager on +44 207 998 4141. No line on any page our reader could open is labelled 24-hour.
On this site's safari rubric Abercrombie & Kent scored 81/100 in September 2026, second of three heritage operators behind Micato and ahead of Ker & Downey.
The three-way comparison with Micato and Ker & Downey credits A&K for owned camps and credentials and marks it down for mixed reviews. For a buyer choosing between safari companies, the luxury safari operator index separates the planners from the camp owners, and the Micato Safaris review covers the rival A&K is most often compared with; Micato vs Abercrombie & Kent puts the two side by side.
Abercrombie & Kent holds 4.4 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 786 reviews on its UK profile, claimed in February 2022, with the newest review dated 24 September 2026.
The profile shows A&K replying to 73% of negative reviews; the first version of this page, on 7 September, read the same figure as 83%. Travelstride shows 4 out of 5 from 64 reviews across 40 trips. A Feefo profile titled Abercrombie & Kent belongs to A&K Villas, a different company, and is not counted. How far any of these platforms can be trusted is covered in who reviews the reviewers.
Abercrombie & Kent suits travellers who want a small group with a resident tour director, or a private trip run by the company's own ground staff, and who value ATOL and USTOA cover over a named planner.
It suits less well a buyer who wants to read the itinerary, the planner's biography and the price on the company's own website before calling: A&K's site does not show them to automated readers, and the dated prices read for this record came through a reseller. Its entry prices, about USD 10,000 for eight days, sit well above those of Audley Travel, whose record shows trips from £3,400 per person.
An A&K booking settles the trip; the traveller still decides how to pay, which flights to take, where to stay either side and what to claim if a flight fails.
| Decision | What matters for an A&K trip | Where we cover it |
|---|---|---|
| Paying the deposit | Paying at least part of the £1,000 deposit by UK credit card brings Section 75 cover for purchases priced £100 to £30,000, on top of ATOL 2881. | Best luxury travel credit cards; UK and Europe travel cards |
| Long-haul flights | The Galápagos price includes internal air only; the flight to Ecuador or Africa is extra unless A&K books it. | Best business class airlines; best first class airlines |
| Airport time | Lounge access usually comes with a card or an airline ticket; check whether the booking adds it. | Credit cards with airport lounge access |
| A delayed flight | Flights from UK and EU airports carry fixed compensation of up to £520 or €600 per passenger for long delays. | AirHelp vs ClaimCompass vs Skycop vs Flightright |
| Nights either side | Gateway nights in Nairobi, Johannesburg or Guayaquil are often in chain hotels where elite status adds breakfast and upgrades. | Hilton Diamond vs Marriott Titanium vs Hyatt Globalist; luxury hotel brand hierarchy |
| Choosing where to go | A&K sells more than 30 countries; the wildlife calendar decides the month. | Best wildlife travel destinations; luxury safari operator index |

On small-group journeys, yes: each is led by a resident tour director, joined by local guides. A&K also runs its own destination management network, which claims more than 55 offices in more than 30 countries.
In the UK they are sold by the same company. Cox & Kings' booking conditions name Abercrombie & Kent Limited as the seller, and both brands belong to A&K Travel Group with Crystal, A&K Sanctuary and Ecoventura.
A&K Sanctuary is Abercrombie & Kent's own collection of lodges, camps and river boats, such as Chief's Camp in the Okavango Delta, Chobe Chilwero in Botswana and Sussi & Chuma in Livingstone, Zambia.
No number labelled 24-hour was found. The terms send problems during a trip to A&K's local representative or to a Duty Manager on +44 207 998 4141, and A&K claims "24/7 A&K on-call support".
On this site's safari rubric Micato ranked first and Abercrombie & Kent second, at 81/100, in a September 2026 comparison. A&K sells far more of the world than Africa; Micato is a safari specialist.
