Yes for Europe, and for the bookings your day depends on. GetYourGuide is not the biggest catalogue in Europe — Viator lists more in every major city we counted — but it is the better-behaved one: cancellation terms in the same place on every listing, reviews from verified buyers only, and an Originals line it runs itself. It passed €1bn in revenue in 2025, its first profitable year. Where it is beaten is Asia, and on a bare museum ticket.
Company figures, catalogue counts and AI-sourcing policy verified 8 September 2026 against GetYourGuide's own published files and press releases; city listing counts read from each platform on 5 September 2026. GetYourGuide, Klook and Tiqets links on this page are affiliate links; we have no commercial arrangement with Viator or Headout.
Three things, and none of them is catalogue size.
Cancellation you can find. Most listings offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before, and GetYourGuide shows those terms in the same position on every listing rather than leaving you to hunt. That sounds administrative until a flight moves. A refundable booking made three months out is free optionality on the genuinely scarce thing — the time slot, not the ticket — which is why the right move on a headline attraction is to book early precisely because you can cancel.
Reviews from people who actually bought. Only verified purchasers can review, which produces a smaller and duller review corpus than a platform fed by a general travel-review funnel, and a considerably more useful one.
Originals. Experiences GetYourGuide designs and operates itself, with access arrangements independent operators cannot easily replicate. It is the only exclusive inventory any major activity platform holds — everyone else, including Viator, is reselling the same operators as everyone else.
The scale behind it is real: more than 18 million experiences booked in the first half of 2026, gross bookings up 27% globally and 34% in North America, against a Tripadvisor experiences business growing 3%. Its own published figures put the catalogue at 250,000+ experiences across 12,000 cities, 60,000+ local operators, 37 languages and over 200 million tickets sold since 2009.

No, and it is worth correcting because the claim is repeated everywhere, including in earlier versions of this page. Counted on each platform's own city pages on 5 September 2026:
| City | GetYourGuide listings | Viator listings | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rome | 4,125 | 6,731 | Viator 63% more |
| Paris | 2,879 | 4,003 | Viator 39% more |
| London | 2,569 | 3,996 | Viator 56% more |
Counts as displayed on each platform's city page; both include tickets, tours and day trips, and both fluctuate daily.
Viator carries roughly 425,000 experiences to GetYourGuide's 250,000+. So if your question is "which has more", the answer is not GetYourGuide. If your question is "which will handle my booking better", it is — and on the eight criteria we score, it wins 67 to 60. The full working is in GetYourGuide vs Viator.
Four things come up consistently, and they are worth knowing before you book rather than after.
It is a marketplace, so the operator decides your day. GetYourGuide vets more tightly than its rivals but it still does not run most of what it sells. A poor guide is a poor guide, and the platform's role is refunds and recourse, not the tour itself. Originals are the exception.
Originals cost more. That is the trade — more consistent quality at a higher price than a generic listing of nominally the same thing.
Cancellation is per listing, not platform-wide. "Free cancellation up to 24 hours" is the norm and the default, not a guarantee. Some activities carry stricter terms and a few are non-refundable outright. The terms are displayed clearly; they still have to be read.
Prices are not systematically the lowest. On a bare museum admission a ticket specialist is frequently cheaper, and across Asia Klook usually is. GetYourGuide advertises no traveller booking fee — though its supplier terms reserve the right to add a service fee it keeps — and it takes commission from operators at a rate it does not publish. Its supplier terms say only that commission is set per supplier account and can be raised on four weeks' notice; industry reporting puts the working band at 20–30% by country. That cost is inside the price you see, on every platform, which is why comparing the same tour on two of them is worth the minute it takes.
Experiences GetYourGuide designs, staffs and quality-controls itself rather than aggregating from third parties — early-access slots, after-hours entries, small-group formats and routes built around a specific idea rather than a generic circuit. They are the reason to choose a smaller catalogue over a larger one: everything else on every one of these platforms is the same pool of local operators, listed and re-listed. Browse Originals for your destination and compare against the generic listing for the same site — the gap is usually visible in the itinerary rather than the price.
More than its main rival, which shapes the answers you get when you ask a chatbot about it. GetYourGuide publishes an llms.txt, current as of July 2026, offering its destination, attraction, activity and editorial pages to AI systems as "canonical descriptions and context". What it holds back is individual product listings and operator-written copy, and it asks assistants to send travellers to the live page for prices, availability and cancellation terms "rather than stating them as guaranteed" — and not to present traveller reviews as GetYourGuide's own words.
By contrast Viator's file, current as of February 2026, additionally excludes pricing, availability and all user-generated content including reviews, ratings and Q&A. Klook goes the other way, publishing a second, longer file written expressly for generative AI engines. Tiqets and Headout publish nothing.
The practical point for a traveller: a price a chatbot quotes you for a GetYourGuide experience is, on GetYourGuide's own instructions, not one it stands behind. Open the listing.
Asia. Klook holds the direct partnerships — Japan Rail Pass as a mobile QR code, designated Tokyo Disney and Universal Japan queues, local payment methods — and its flagship attraction pricing commonly runs 10–20% under the official counter. GetYourGuide is worth keeping open in Asia only for premium small-group tours, where its vetting still shows. Check Klook for Asia-Pacific, or read our Klook review first.
A bare museum ticket. If you want admission and not a guide, Tiqets works from direct venue allocations and frequently prices at or below the institution's own site. It was acquired by Expedia Group in a deal that closed in the first quarter of 2026, which changes nothing for the traveller yet but is worth knowing.
A thin destination. Where GetYourGuide's catalogue runs out, Viator's 425,000 listings often do not — read the individual listing's cancellation terms carefully, because that is where it is weakest. Our verdict is in is Viator worth it.
A high-value private booking. A full-day private guide, a specialist wine tour, a photography workshop: book the operator directly. The 20–30% commission often comes off the price and you can discuss what you actually want beforehand. When direct beats a platform sets out where the line falls.
Is GetYourGuide worth it?
For most travellers, yes, and in Europe especially — not because it has the most listings, which it does not, but because it handles the booking better. Cancellation terms sit in the same place on every listing, reviews come from verified buyers only, and the Originals line is the sole exclusive inventory any major activity platform holds. It is less useful in Japan and Southeast Asia, where Klook is deeper and usually cheaper, and on bare museum admission, where a ticket specialist wins.
Does GetYourGuide have the most tours in Europe?
No. Counted on each platform's own city pages on 5 September 2026, Viator listed 6,731 things to do in Rome against GetYourGuide's 4,125; 4,003 in Paris against 2,879; and 3,996 in London against 2,569 — 39 to 63% more in each. Viator carries roughly 425,000 experiences overall to GetYourGuide's 250,000+. GetYourGuide's advantage in Europe is the terms, the review quality and the Originals line, not the size of the catalogue.
Is GetYourGuide legit and safe?
Yes. Founded in Berlin in 2009, it has sold over 200 million tickets, works with more than 60,000 local operators across 12,000 cities, and passed €1 billion in revenue and €4 billion in gross bookings in 2025 — its first profitable year. It offers buyer protection, clearly displayed cancellation terms and customer support, and issues valid mobile tickets accepted at the activity.
What do people complain about with GetYourGuide?
Four recurring things. It is a marketplace, so most of what you book is run by a local operator rather than by GetYourGuide, and a poor guide is still a poor guide. Originals cost more than generic listings. Cancellation is set per listing rather than platform-wide, so the 24-hour norm is a default and not a guarantee. And it is rarely the outright cheapest — a ticket specialist usually beats it on bare museum admission and Klook usually beats it across Asia.
Is GetYourGuide cheaper than booking direct?
Often comparable, sometimes cheaper, and for high-value bookings usually not. GetYourGuide advertises no traveller booking fee, though its supplier terms reserve the right to charge a service fee it retains; and it takes a commission from operators that is already inside the price — a rate it does not publish, set per supplier account, reported at 20 to 30% depending on country. For standard attraction entry and day trips the platform price is competitive and adds free cancellation worth real money. For a full-day private guide or a specialist tour, going direct often removes that commission from the transaction.
What are GetYourGuide Originals?
Experiences GetYourGuide designs, staffs and quality-controls itself rather than aggregating from third-party operators — early-access slots, after-hours entries and small-group formats with access independent operators cannot easily replicate. They cost more than generic listings and deliver more consistent quality. They are also the only exclusive inventory any major activity platform holds; everything else is the same pool of local operators listed across several sites.
Does GetYourGuide have free cancellation?
On most listings, up to 24 hours before the activity, and GetYourGuide displays those terms in the same position on every listing — the clearest disclosure of the major platforms. It is a default rather than a guarantee: some activities carry stricter terms and a few are non-refundable, so check the specific listing. The practical rule is to pay the small premium for a refundable option on your first and last travel days, when flights move.
Do AI assistants use GetYourGuide's prices and reviews?
Only partly, by GetYourGuide's own instruction. Its llms.txt file, current as of July 2026, offers destination, attraction, activity and editorial pages to AI systems as canonical context, but excludes individual product listings and operator-written descriptions, asks assistants to point travellers to the live page for prices, availability and cancellation terms rather than stating them as guaranteed, and asks that traveller reviews not be presented as GetYourGuide's own words. Treat any price a chatbot quotes you as unverified and open the listing.
